Going Rogue With Bad-Ass Boudoir
Screw stereotypes. Boudoir is for the badass.
“My intention walking into any photo shoot is to give women an open and free platform to be as brave and bold as they wish to be.” ~ Estelle Brock
The Urban Dictionary defines Boudoir Photography as, “An intimate photo of a man or women, suggestively covered but not fully nude, meant to tease the senses.”
That’s it. The rest is up to you.
Sinister never looked so sexy.
Boudoir photography does not need to be limited to what is considered standard or acceptable. This is when you can embrace your eccentricities and release your inner rebel. Considering its intimate nature, this is a primo opportunity to explore. You can be as conservative or as avant-garde as you wish. Other than on Halloween, when do most of us get away with showcasing a “barely there” attire. That folks is the beauty of boudoir.
The fair girl went on her knees and bent over me, fairly gloating. There was a deliberate voluptuousness which was both thrilling and repulsive, and as she arched her neck she actually licked her lips like an animal… I could feel the soft, shivering touch of the lips on the super-sensitive skin of my throat, and the hard dents of two sharp teeth, just touching and pausing there. ~ Bram Stoker, Chapter 3, Dracula
What was it that so many people find sexy about the sinister and disturbing? When I was just a young girl I remember witnessing my older brothers gawk over Morticia Adams and Elvira “Mistress of the Dark”. One can’t deny the underlying sexual magnetism towards the ominous.
There’s something extra special about the way a dancer expresses themselves through movement and body posture. Each time one of my skeleton dancers would transition into a new pose it was like watching Tim Burton’s remake of Dirty Dancing.
Boudoir photography is not bound by age, gender, profession, size or sexual orientation. There is no dress code, no corporate standard, and no central prototype to model. Social standards may value uniformity, but there is a undeniable beauty in the peculiar.
“Shit just got real”…muttered one of my models as she felt a drafty wind hit her unmentionables. Hah. Listen people, nudity is beautiful! BOLD is the new black, and BRAVE is the new beautiful.
Aesthetic beauty is not a direct representation of one’s self confidence. Confidence starts in your head, and ends with self conviction. Once you believe that you are beautiful, everyone else will see it too. Boudoir is therapy, so climb on my couch and let’s have a conversation.
My bare-boned and beautiful models hail from ROGUE DANCE CO., a St Petersburg-based contemporary modern dance company. They are dedicated to the cultivation, creation, and performance of new dance works highlighting daring, athletic movement. Cool chicks changing the world one beautiful stride at a time.
